Belay
Last updated: July 18, 2026
Belay is a fitness tracking app for planning workouts, logging training, and following your progress over time. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers the Belay iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android apps.
When you create an account we collect your email address and a display name, and we generate an account identifier. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication and, if you use Sign in with Apple, by Apple.
To provide the app, we store the training content you create: workouts and templates, exercises, sets, repetitions, weights, one rep maxes, HIIT routines, sessions, schedules, and any notes you add. This data is stored in your account so it syncs across your devices.
We collect app activity to understand how features are used and to fix problems: for example which screens you open, which features you use, and crash and performance diagnostics. This is collected through Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring.
Analytics events carry only a small set of pseudonymous values. When analytics is enabled, Firebase uses an app-installation identifier and, while you are signed in, your internal Belay account identifier to connect activity across sessions and devices. We never send your exercise names, weights, repetitions, one rep maxes, notes, email, display name, or Apple Health data through analytics.
Usage analytics is on by default where local law allows, so that we can improve the app and set usage policies. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, it is off until you turn it on. You can change this at any time in the app under Settings, and your choice applies across your devices.
With your permission, Belay writes your completed workouts to Apple Health so they appear in the Fitness app, and reads your most recent body weight to show your weight trend and to avoid saving duplicate workouts. On Apple Watch, Belay reads heart rate during a workout to display it on screen.
Your Apple Health data stays on your device and in Apple Health. We do not upload your Apple Health measurements to our servers, and we never use them for analytics or advertising. We store only a small sync status record with your session (for example, whether a workout saved successfully) so the app does not write duplicates. You control Health access at any time in Apple's Health app.
Belay offers an optional paid plan (Belay Super). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play. We do not receive your payment card details. We receive your subscription status and a token that links your purchase to your account so we can unlock paid features.
For analytics and diagnostics we and our providers process basic device and app information, such as app version, device model, operating system version, and a pseudonymous app instance identifier. Belay does not use Apple's IDFA or the Android Advertising ID.
Where this law applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf, under contract:
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and Belay shows no third party ads.
We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
We keep your account and training data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your workouts, history, and maxes. Analytics and diagnostics data is retained according to our providers' standard retention periods and is aggregated or de-identified over time. We may retain limited records where required for legal, security, or fraud prevention purposes.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights. Residents of the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and may object to processing or withdraw consent, and may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents may request to know, delete, and correct their personal information, and may opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share it), without discrimination for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Belay is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country, such as 16 in parts of the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
We and our providers process and store data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for international transfers.
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls, and app integrity checks (Apple App Attest and Google Play Integrity through Firebase App Check). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the date at the top and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
